Cristian's #ChangeTheNow Passport
I want to be a Changemaker because...
My profession has the powerful power to profoundly impact societies and the way they interact with the environment. Through my academic and professional experience, I have realized that small projects with very little investment (economic and time) can change the way of thinking of an entire community and its subsequent generations.
My Changemaker Pathway
I am a Social Innovator
I want to create new strategies, products or ideas to address social issues.
My UN Sustainable Development Goal

As part of #ChangeTheNow, I’m working on solving UN Sustainable Development Goal 10: reducing inequality within and among countries.
My Passport Stamps
#ChangeTheNow participants must complete modules centered around the Design Thinking process. Passport stamps are awarded as modules are completed.

Cristian Herrera answered "After completing CTN, what new awareness do you have for yourself (ME) and your community (WE) and what is one action you might take to continue to explore it?" 2022-01-20 20:23:27 -0800Being part of #CTN helped me recognize myself as an agent of change. (ME) Understand my strengths and weaknesses and learn how to strengthen the development of a project through the strengths of my workmates.
(WE) We have the potential to change society, to identify problems, and seek possible solutions. The hardest part is that it is not an easy process, it is a process that requires a series of tools that not everyone has. However, the irony is that these tools are only possible to acquire when you are really interested in generating a changing project. It is a feedback process: you develop projects based on your knowledge, but at the same time the projects give you knowledge that you did not have previously.
My last reflection is related to the interest, and de deeper interest. At the beginning, we were hundreds of students interested in social innovation. But in the end, we were just a few students. The track is long and hard, and just the people who want to change the world can finish it. -

Cristian Herrera answered "How might the prototype & test stage help you with overcoming a fear of failure or challenging your assumptions about what is ‘right’?" 2022-01-20 20:05:28 -0800It is very easy to understand errors as failures. However, when a social innovation project is advancing, discovering errors provides the opportunity to improve the final result.
A project that has no errors, is a project that quite possibly is not attacking the real problem. The initial errors discovered from prototypes and iterations show that the project is on the right track and, that the tactics used, although are not the most appropriate, are aligned with the problem to be solved. -

Cristian Herrera answered "How might ideate help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?" 2022-01-19 03:09:14 -0800When you are working in a team, it is very important to listen to the ideas of others, in addition to making observations about the whole. Active listening is a really useful skill in brainstorming and reflection.
This makes you stand back from specific elements and see everything as a whole. It allows you to correct, rethink, reorganize or merge the ideas of yours and your colleagues. -

Cristian Herrera answered "How might you explain the value of you having a systems-thinking mindset when attempting to define and understand a complex problem?" 2022-01-19 02:17:32 -0800The systems-thinking mindset is a really useful tool when you are facing a complex problem because normally the things that come to mind are the symptoms of the problem. However, identifying the causes requires a deeper understanding of the issue and requires actively engaging the affected community to understand the roots of the problem.
In addition, the systems-thinking minset is very important to foresee the possible impacts when implementing a project and minimize them so as not to create a bigger problem. -

Cristian Herrera answered "What was the most important part of the CTN experience you feel best supported your personal growth and goals?" 2022-01-12 03:43:47 -0800The most important thing about ideas is not simply thinking about them, it is sharing and perfecting them. A very good idea needs teamwork to be developed in a better way. The opinions of a group analyze the strengths and weaknesses in an issue to find a more comprehensive solution.
